Not exactly the picture you want to be posting anytime let alone with the vacation pictures. But apparently Hunter wasn't having enough fun at the waterpark resort, so he decided a trip to the ER would add to the adventure. And that it did!
Poor little guy he fell as he was coming down the ladder from the top bunk in our room and broke both his radial and ulnar bones in his arm. There was some dorsal displacement but due to his age they said it didn't need to be set. Hunter was in a lot of pain and it just broke my heart to see him like that. The resort sent up a EMT and two Life Guards to take a look. The EMT guy looked Hunter over and basically said he didn't know if the arm was broke, but he didn't think so because he thought Hunter should be in more pain. I tried to tell them that when it comes to pain Hunter is one tough kid! Hunter was so strong while they were there but as soon as they left he asked if it was OK if he cried again.
Once we were at the ER and we got his arm wrapped, Hunter started to feel some relief. He had a nice size bump on his head as well and a headache to go along with that. The Baylor Medical Center was great!
Tough Guy...............the sling really helped out with the pain and it was fun to hear all the things Hunter called his sling. Wow that is one word that is hard for Hunter to get out...............he made me laugh so much trying to say "sling." I love Hunter's speech impediment although I do hope he grows out of it.
After leaving the ER we had to go to a orthopedic surgons office to get a watercast put on so the remainder of our vacation wasn't ruined. Breaking your arm while staying at a waterpark resort and not getting a water cast put on would have been madness. And heaven knows we don't need anymore madness in our lives!!!
This is the next day and several Motrin pills later...................Hunter is ready to hit the waterpark. He kept telling his dad that the bag on his arm made him look like a dork. He said he didn't think it would keep the water out and he was right it didn't. So after one trip in the lazy river we took it off and Hunter said, "Yes, now I don't look like a dork anymore!"
I know why wrap it if it's a watercast? The Dr. said it's OK to get wet, but it would smell worse and could irritate his skin more. The Dr. also said to dry it with a hair dryer if we did get it wet, so we were trying to avoid all those things, but so much for that.
Hunter quickly learned (all on his own, I didn't tell him how to pose) how to pose for a photo with his cast. After he does his pose he'll alwasy ask me if it was a good one and if he can see it. If it's not quite right he'll even say lets take another one. Thats what happens when your mother is a photographer I guess.
The is where the accident occurred. Hunter isn't having much luck with ladders the past couple of months. On November 19th Hunter fell off the ladder in our castle fort and broke his left foot (I'll post more about that story later). Anyways, he had just gotten his foot cast off two days before Christmas, a Tuesday. He got his foot cast off a week early because we were going on this vacation to the waterpark and exactly one week later, a Tuesday, he breaks his right arm. Never a dull moment...................oh how I wish there were somedays!
